My name is Pia Amdi. I am Danish but have lived in Bargemon for some years.
I am an autodidact colourist expressive artist and I base my art on the play with colour. I love to challenge myself and I like to switch between the different styles and motifs. The interaction between several styles inspires me and gives me energy.
The nature around me in Provence, music, moods, the people I meet on my way, and especially reflections about life inspires me. I draw and paint to tell a story of what I find visually appealing.
I love painting women and landscapes with poppies. Al dresses in the colour of love and both fragile and robust at the same time.
Lately I have been inspired by the traditional still life Paintings, which I have chosen to exhibit at the 2019 festival. I basically take the starting point in the classic still life, where a collection of lifeless objects and symbolism, are arranged and put together in a certain way.
As something new I try to add for ex. transparent persons and other living creatures. They do not belong in a traditional still life painting and therefore one cannot immediately see them. They are there - and yet not, but they help to emphasize the mood of the image and gives a connection with the things that are in the paintings.
I often play with the angles, so there are objects that are "angled" wrongly to emphasize that in everything neat and perfect, there is always something we cannot control.
With my still life paintings I try to open up for new interpretations and dimensions of what still life can be.
